Direct Anterior Hip Replacement

Direct anterior hip replacement is a minimally invasive technique for performing total hip arthroplasty. It is performed by opening the front of the hip joint in a “muscle-sparing” technique to minimise muscle damage, improve post operative pain and enhance recovery.

Benefits:

  • minimal muscle trauma

  • less pain

  • reduced risk of dislocation

  • accurate positioning of implants using intraoperative X-rays

Risks:

  • anterior thigh numbness from lateral femoral cutaneous nerve injury

  • femoral fracture

  • not suitable for everyones anatomy or more complex hip conditions
